I just bought a iBook 900 with combo drive. Yesterday everything was ok, and today also. I used it in my bedroom and start it up. When it was booting i closed it and gone to my other room and when i opened it it wasnt booting anymore and i cant boot in. I tryed to recharge it but it should have at least 80% of battery. What are the diods on the batery ? what does this mean? 4 diodes and 2 are burning ?! I did take the battery out and put it back in .. but nothing. When I open it and touch the num lock or the shift lock the buttons are lightened but the computer doesnt start. is there a nifty trick i dont know or is something wrong ?

You say "i can't boot in"

Exactly what do you see. Is there an image on the screen? Sound? Or is the machine absolutely dead and silent?

We need to know more before we can offer suggestions. And please don't close the lid when the computer is booting, OK?

Closing the lid puts the computer to sleep, so doing that while booting, etc. isn't a good idea.
Try the "3 finger salute": Hold the Command (the "Apple" key) and Control keys down, and press the power button. Perhaps it's frozen in a "deep sleep" and just needs a force restart to get it going.

Also, if the three finger salute doesn't work, press and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds until you hear the machine shut down. Then press it again to reboot.

A good way to check if your machine is off is by pushing the caps lock key. If green light on, then it is still on. Hope you get your problem figured out.

thanks guys! My iBook fell into a hard sleep. I rebooted and it was ok. It does this alot, yesterday also. What about your ibooks? Having problems with deep sleep ?

I've had three iBook and have never seen the problem you describe. I don't even know what "deep sleep" is.

Since you iBook is new, and since closing the lid during boot is not a good idea, you might try using the restore CDs to return the iBook software to factory configuration.

i don't know if this is the same as your problem
but my 700mhz opaque ibook sounds like it does the same sleep thing you described, but only when i have it connected to an external moniter. with the moniter plugged in to the ibook, if i shut it or tell it to sleep, it plays dead, it wont wake up, or anything, but my optical mouse is still lit up, so i know its not off. but without the moniter plugged in it sleeps fine, also it wont go to sleep with the energy saver settings when i have a moniter attached, its rather odd

i dont know what it is though, so i just live with it and remeber only to shut it when its not attached to my moniter
w3rd..

Basically, when it's asleep and won't wake up. Technically the computer is on, but it can't actually do anything, as if it wasn't even on at all.
