There's a review of that superdrive upgrade at xlr8yourmac.com. I have done this upgrade with a superdrive from OWC to my 1GHz TiBook. The operation is not too difficult, though the instructions PDF provided by OWC is for older TiBook models, so the procedure is a tad different for a 1GHz TiBook. You should have a set of small screwdrivers, as well as some Torx wrenches (I used a T8 and a T6). Just be gentle, take care not to scratch the case or the PCB with your screwdriver.

Or, get an external that you can also use with your next computer. Though I guess that wouldn't run iDVD...

I can't comment on the price but replacing the drive is fairly simple. The only somewhat delicate part is the dust cover on the DVD drive (it's a thin, adhesive piece of plastic). I'm assuming that the new one will come with its own dust cover but you should probably check before you order.

Installing the drive is fairly simple. However, I would be concerned of the performance you'll get with a PBti 400 (I'm typing in a 400 too).

The price seems fair, but this company was selling a combo for ~$160 last week.

How many DVDs do you plan to burn?

I sold my old Combo drive (taken out of my 667 15" PBook when I upgraded to SuperDrive) to a German lad who has now been told it doesn't fit in his 500mhz Ti PBook...

Can someone/anyone tell us what the exact difference is between installing in first Gen PBooks and later ones? I think this is what MacYourDay was referring to in his posts about the slight difference.

Help would be appreciated!
