Hey all,

There's an offer for a used TiBook/1Ghz/Superdrive for $2000.

I know updates might be just around the corner, but will
(1) the price of a used TiBook fall dramatically
(2) the price of the *new* 15" 'book be dramatically lower

or is it likely that $2000 is a good deal for a 1Ghz Powerbook now, and in three weeks?

Thoughts?

I think that, unless you're a student, that's a pretty good deal. I like these machines a lot, and if you like them more than you might like the revisions (for reasons such as ports in the back, OS 9 booting, preference for the titanium look), then it's a computer you won't regret buying.

I don't think you'll see a firesale on used TiBooks once the new models are introduced....

That's an awesome deal... TAKE IT!

The new 15" will NOT be cheaper, and most likely will be a bit more expensive (say $200 or so)...

I paid $2500 for my TiSD w/ 1Gb of RAM before the price dropped over the summer and I thought (and still think) I got a hell of a deal.

i got a 800mhz with 512mb ram and a combo drive for 1550 a few weeks ago on eBay, after haggling with the guy for a while. for 2 grand, the extra speed boost (how much RAM is installed?) plus a super drive sounds like it'd be a darn good deal to me.

If it were new, that would be a great price, but for a used machine it seems more or less average to me (depends on the installed ram and so forth). I would make sure how much of the warranty remains (if any).

i'd see if there is an applecare warranty on it, if there is airport installed (i don't know if the 1ghz come with it or not) and things of that nature, as Icruise said. if the ram is stock (256? 512?) and there is no airport card, then i don't know. if it's got any of that stuff maxed out though - it's a pretty darn good deal IMO.

SD 1ghz machines come standard with an airport card. Seeing as a refurbed pb with the same specs can be had at Powermax (when they have them) for 2300, then I would say this is a good deal.
15" Macbook Pro 1.83 2 GB RAM
Blackbook 13.3 Powerhouse 2 GB RAM
MacMini Dual Core 2 GB RAM (Sadly running Windows Most of the time)
Numerouse Workstations running windows and Linux. Sorry don't have the specs, I don't pay much attention to them anymore. :)

1Ghz would come w/ at least 512Mb and airport...

He didn't specify if it had additional RAM or not thought.

I sold my Ti SD for $1900 in August, and I'm pretty happy with that sale --- most of the used Ti's on ebay are going for around $2200
