How do you boot as a fire wire drive? If I recall, I beleive that there is a certain key you hold down when starting up the computer, but I can't recal it.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

Just hold down the option key when you startup and then select the drive you want.

Or go to the startup disk control panel (os9) or system preferences pane (osX) and choose the drive before you restart.

BTW, some folks have had trouble getting certain models of firewire drives to boot. I have VST / Smartdisk slim firewire drives and they boot fine.

Best wishes,

i think he was asking how to boot the computer in FireWire Target Disk mode, not how to boot off of an attached firewire drive. To answer your question, TiMac, you turn off the computer and attach it to another computer (turned on) with a firewire cable and then boot up the computer while holding down 'T' to start target disk mode. the drive will then eventually mount on the other computer's desktop as a firewire drive, which you are free to add and take from as you please.

I read the question in an even more interesting way, which was "How do I start up Computer B using Computer A's System over FireWire?"

I don't know if this would work, but you'd have to start up A and hold down "T" and start B. Wait until B is loaded, plug the two together, and go to System Preferences and choose A's OS. Restart B.
