Well...after so many years of being a "Windows" guy...I finally broke down and bought a Mac. I've used them before, in school, college, etc. But I've never owned one. Also, I'm a freelance artist...and I thought it was about time I added a Mac to my list of tools. Seeing that it is an incredible machine when it comes to graphic design!

Anyway....just thought I'd share my excitement. I just ordered it today, and it should be here by next week!

I got a 15" Powerbook G4 1ghz, 40gb hdd, 512 ram, w/ Combo Drive.

Also...since I'm pretty much a newbie to the MAC OS, especially X...got any good sites for me to visit to learn more stuff...maybe find some tips & tricks!

Thanks!

CONGRATS & welcome the MacNN Boards!

You've got yourself a very nice machine! Definitely make sure you post any Q's you may have right here...it's the best place to get answers.

Also, check out www.macosxhints.com and www.xlr8yourmac.com for some good F.A.Q.'s and hints. And for any Q you may have, be sure to use the "Search" function atop these pages...information is stored everywhere around here.

Depends on what you are using it for. If you are using it just for surfing and what not, you aren't gonna be using up all the 512 anyways.

By the way, you could check how much ram are you using through Applications/Utilities/Process Viewer.

Congratulations by the way.

Definitely...the wait is the killer. And let your first upgrade definitely be RAM...it's relatively cheap now and makes a huge difference in OS X.

It is to cheap not to get it. Surfing or Compositing 2k film frames doesn't matter get more ram.

Welcome again
real
With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

Congrats! Welcome to the Mac world.

BTW: I've been trying to remember where the 'Minty Fresh' character comes from. I think it was a fantasy book of some variety.

Can you remind me?

Well....looks like I'll be getting some more RAM! LOL You really can't have too much!

And Minty Fresh (for me) actually just came from a back in the day when I used to play Quake, and go to all the Frag Fests! It was my name...and it just kinda stuck. I use it on pretty much all the forums I go to. I know there is a record company called Minty Fresh, but I've never heard of any character named it.

Congratulations! I purchased my 12" Powerbook in February and I have never been happier. This forum is the best I've found for help for the Mac. I have been helped more times than I can count.

I was a Windows user for years--and continue to use Windows and Mac--but NOW I prefer my Mac! OS X is stable and easy to use.

Enjoy! and Welcome!

Congrats on your new Mac! I too got my first ever Mac last March, and I am still loving every second of it. I will never look back again to the dark days of Windows crashing on me, rebooting on me, not working on me anymore.

If you have any question at all about anything involving Apple, ask right here, this is where I learned a lot from. Now I felt like I've been using my Mac for years.
