With all of the speculation over the new line of PB's I am becoming tempted to sell mine and wait. What do you guys think?

Well if your machine is suiting you well, don't sell it. You'll probably lose a good bit of money on the purchase...however, if you are intent on selling it, do it NOW before the new ones come out and it's value goes down even more.

Are you thinking about an updated 17" PB or a new 15" PB? If the 17" PB is just too big, I'd say that's reason enough to part with it now and get a new 15" PB when it comes out...but remember, Apple's not so quick to ship out new products (as we've seen w/ the 17" PB & G5 releases this year) so if you're gonna need it ASAP, you may wanna think twice.

Look before you leap.

Wait until the new models are introduced as only then we are sure what the upgrades really are. At that time you can first decide if it worth selling in comparision to the offered upgrade.

You sold your 17 on Ebay right? How much did you get for it? How much should I ask for my PB?

Absolutely. You'll get the most money there without a doubt. I sold my 17" PB, case, extra battery, and AppleCare for over $3,500 exactly one month after I got it. The sell date was June 5, 2003 I believe.

Selling your PB loaded with software is one sure fire way of getting your auction yanked by ebay.

If you have all original documentation and packaging, and can take some good digital pics to upload onto your eBay auction, you can easily fetch $2,800-$3,000. Make sure your auction is easy to read, very detailed, and include details about the extra software.

Not true at all...I did this with mine. All you have to do is include the line: "The following software is installed, however it's the buyers responsibility to delete if they do not own a license".

Why would ebay pull the auction if I sold with software loaded onto my PB?

Sure, you can post it in the Marketplace here or on www.spymac.com/forums or the www.powerbookcentral.com forums...however, you won't fetch nearly the amount of cash on these boards compared to eBay.

No! Dont be a fool! - its the best thing going - wait for a G5.

or... Yes! you should sell it to me for $1500 before it becomes so obsolete you will get nothing for it. you will have to use it to prop up a table.

OMG why would you sell a laptop that isn't even a year old. It makes no sense. You have a great computer keep it. God I hope he is kidding lol.

If you do sell and buy a rev B
Then you will buy another 17 rev b and lose money, and it will hardly be any better then what you currently have.

Also the 17 rev a is far from obsolete.

I want to echo what djjava and others have said. Don't sell your 17. It's a great machine and can handle anything you throw at it. Plus the screen is to die for. I never liked watching DVD's on laptops till I got the 17.

Seriously, I can't see what a Rev B would offer that would warrant selling your current PB.

Why not wait until the new ones come out, and if you like them, trade it in through Powermax, and if not, keep the one you've got?

How long has the speculation been going on, it seems to me a few months. If I recall a number of people expected new PBs during the devlopers conference and of that didn't happen.

I would hold off selling it expecially if you'd be out of a computer.

The upside of waiting is seeing if the new breed of PBs are different enough to warrent the sale of your Big AL. The downside is the price that the 17" could fetch would go down pretty quickly.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

<sarcasm>Yeah, go ahead and sell it now and sit around using an even slower machine and wait for a new upgrade that may not come for months.</sarcasm>

Sounds like it would be a dumba$$ move to me (no offense).

Yes you should sell it - to me. I'll give you $500 bucks cash money. It will be a very cathartic, clensing move on your part. You'll feel better and will be well on your way to enlightenment in The Macintosh Way.

Someone told me the 17" has USB2 but the OS has no drivers for it yet, how much of this is true? Should I buy a PCMCIA adapter?

Your not still thinking about selling a practically brand new machine!

This is one of those times when I don't even know what to say

What speculation are you referring to? G5 in a powerbook? If so, forget it. So selling yours for a rev. B is a definite bonehead move.

I would keep it if I were you. This baby is still good enough for you to do almost if not everything you never needed to work on. I would wait on it until they upgraded to a G5 line for the Powerbooks. A .25 mhz speed increase doesn't really make much difference with what we have now with the 1.0 gig.
