I have a Powerbook G4 and the other day it froze up when I was online with Safari..When I turned the power off and back on, I got the little icon with a small fime with a question mark. When I pulled up the Disk Utility it cant seam to read my hard drive as if it were missing. Can someone please let me know if this is happened to them before and any tips on trying to fix it myself before I take it to the Apple store..

I would reset the power manager, do a pram reset and pull the battery and power cord for about an hour.

If none of the above work, then it's time to get Apple involved.

You didn't mention which PB G4 model you had so the procedure at the top varies. Go to www.apple.com/support

Type in "reset power manager" under search and follow procedure for your model. For PRAM reset, on startup holdown the Apple key simultaneously with the option key and P key and R key until you hear it chime three times then release all the keys.

Sounds to me as if the hard drive died on you, which would explain all the symptoms you described.

A trip for repair is in order.

Is it under warranty?

If so, Apple Store.

If not, buy a hard drive and put it in. EASIEST THING TO DO.

Buy a hard drive here:

www.transintl.com

Then put it in. Just need a Torx 8 screwdriver/wrench from any hardware store.

The Transinternational site has directions also.

It's incredibly easy.

Good luck.
