I just bought a 12" 900MHz combo. I've noticed that when in OS X my battery acts wierd. When the iBook is plugged in to the AC power sometimes the battery doesn't charge, like right now the battery level has been at 95% for about 4 hours now. It should be 100% now. But if I boot into OS 9 the battery level says it's full. Must be a bug in OS X. I'm running 10.2.6 it that matters.

I also just noticed that my battery doesn't sit flush. The gap between the iBook and the battery is enough for 3 pieces of paper to fit in that gap. Is this normal? I'm running on battery power only now so at least it works, I'll let it drain down to about 50% and plug the power adapter back in and see if it will charge.

Take it back if you aren't happy. It's a laptop and you don't want to be unhappy or unconfident in its performance as one. If it's as new as it sounds you may be able to push for a replacement.

I've just replaced my battery at my own expense (I bought my iBook in November 2001) as the warranty had expired and I didn't have Applecare.
