It was used to it on Windows, but on Mac OS X it was a shock when the window got dark and the message "you have to restart..." appeared.
Do I need to do something? Error code was something like FF:FF:FF:FF:FF...
Or do I just ignore it like on Windows?
edit: Sorry, this may seem kind of a dumb newbie question to you. But I wasn't prepared for that, you know "The Mac doesn't crash" and stuff.

Unless it happens a lot, the only thing you can really do is ignore it and go on (by a lot I mean, more than once or twice in a few months). Sometimes you can pin down the cause to a particular peripheral or perhaps bad ram.

I had the same problem just with my powerbook. Just backup all your data and do not listen to the apple suport people. they made me erase my hard drive and it still didn;t help. So I took it in to see if it was a hardware problem and it was, my ram was bad! so if it keeps happening take it in!

You are kidding, right? You actually believe that? That is right up there with midgets and leprechauns.
Anything and everything at least semi-complex can crash. Mainframes crash, Playstations crash, DVD players crash. Your goddamned calculator and watch crash.

The only time I've seen this screen on my PB17 was with OS X 10.2.5 with the kernel panic induded by my external USB hub. You really should not see this very often if your hardware and software are up to date and running properly.

how often does ASIMO crash?
i've only gotten 2 kernel panics on my 12" powerbook in 7 months. I don't remember what the first one was, but the more recent one yesterday happened after i printed about 20 different documents from preview and from dragging onto the Print Center icon.

Well, I didn't really believe it. But until yesterday, my PB didn't even crash once in 6 months of use. So I started believing.

You know, try as I might, I can't think of a single instance where my calculator or watch have crashed...

True, we just accept crashes with computers.
If electrcity or cars would regularly crash, people wouldn't accept it. Well, you know what I mean by cars crashing.

Hahaha. . . .
I both my Powerbook and my iBook has never crashed. Been a switcher for about a year now.
Although one time I was messing around w/ installation of themes and I "Force Quit" Theme Changer and it crashed the entire GUI. Ended up fixing it up TCFIX though, so everything was cool.

Earlier builds crashed on from time to time and upon certain obstacles, but things improved. I personally have never crashed. Really, I am that good. Thanks, Honda.
My TI-89 crashed just last quarter performing a graph; the screen froze, restarted by battery. Not that I needed a calculator or anything.

My TI-83 is surely no crash proof. It can crash on its own, or I can crash it myself with a poorly written assembely program.
The nice thing is when it crashes it resets all ram. Woopee. Good thing I have the calculator-computer link to back up with.

You know he mostly means frequency. As in "The Mac doesn't crash [often]." Everything can crash, but OS X usually (in my experience) doesn't crash as often as other computers.

Me too...Ti400 and TiGhz. Not a single system crash.
In fact my only OS X crash was in the days of 10.0.0. It was a sleep related issue with Classic.
X is rock solid, but things like bad hardware (e.g., RAM) will make a good system irrelevant.

Wow, that is very rare indeed. I've used my Mac everyday since I got it in March of this year, I shut it down maybe only once a month, But I have never had a crash on me yet.

Right, for word processing. I've had to format 6 times in one year with XP. My mac has had unexpected quits and an occassional freeze, but nothing like that.

Mine crashes about once every 2 weeks. Also, I eventually have to reboot about once a week because leaving it on causes some kind of memory leak and eventually it slows down to nothing.

Hear! Hear!
My 3ds max machine, which I have to use to do my 3d work, has some serious "leaks" that require me to restart. Otherwise, 3dsMax crashes (with absolutely no warning or message before or after) and the computer slooooowwwwsss down.
I LOVE max but HATE windows. It's only because of max (and Half-Life2, of course) that requires me to keep the beast around.
