Was just sitting taking care of some email this evening when suddenly the screen faded to a bright white on my iBook (700mhz combo). Rebooted the thing and now it seems to have some random lines floating around.

Any idea on what this may be? I've seen some mention of a video cable issue on here. Could it be that, or something with the LCD itself? Video output is fine to a CRT.

I'm going to run it up to the closest Apple Store tomorrow morning and let them deal with it. I did buy the extended AppleCare for some peace of mind, now I am very glad I did!

Just some quick questions on having a machine repaired by Apple. First of all, I still have the original packaging, think I should bring it along or will they pack it up for me? Secondly, is it alright to leave the 512meg memory chip and AirPort card that I had to install myself in the laptop?

Thanks!

You dont need to bring the original package with you. Apple will take care that part for you. My gf's ibook sent back to apple long time ago due to the logic board problem. Apple fixed everything and it works great now. However, we found huge scratches on our ibook after we recived it. It looks like our ibook has been dragging around on the rough floor or something. We called apple and they said they might be able to fix that for us but we were too busy at that time so we did not send it back. Good luck with your ibook!

Your problem is logic board failure. A very common problem with the iBook.

I'm having the same problem with my Ibook 800MHz, sending to Apple today.

I will be without my Ibook for only a few days hopefully.
