Hey--
I own an ibook 500. Lately my computer screen has been acting funny. It keeps FLICKERING, like a lightbulb about to burn out, you know.
I thought I was going crazy... or that my light about me was doing it, but i shut off the lights and it still does it.
It's not constant, but it goes in and out.
• What could be causing this?
Also I think the 12 inch screen is hurting my eyes... but I don't know if it's because of the size, the fact that I use it too much, or the quality of the screen.
A post below has something aobut a Sony notebook and someone mentioned how the Apple screens weren't up to par with Sony screens.
• So what is the biggest reason the screen is hurting my eyes? Is it because of the size, or just the fact that the screens aren't as sharp as a Sony?
I like the small size, but I don't want to go blind at 25.
I wear glasses, but only for the movies or driving. I can see fairly well.
I was wondering if the other powerbooks, like the 15 inch have better screens....
What I find odd, is that you can't adjust things like contrast on our ibooks.. you can calibrate and adjust brightness... but I think, we need more controls.
Thank you.

Possibly the backlight is going?

I'm a 43-year-old with fairly bad eyesight (-7.5 in one eye and -8.5 in the other) and I have no problems with my 12" iBook 600 -- in fact, I like the screen better than the 17" and 21" CRT monitors I use at work.

Why don't you try playing around with your color profiles by using Display Calibrator. I have made a few different profiles to save my eyesight, and it's been working for me. Just switch to a profile with toned-down colors when your eyes begin to hurt.
