*Ok, apperently, I posted this too soon, as a quick look over the threads after posting show that there's already talk on the subject. However, if anyone has any CONCRETE info, please feel free to share here.*
A client of mine who wants to buy a new iBook informs me that several people she's talked to are telling her to wait a month or two (around christmas or early next year maybe) to buy one because new ones are coming out (and she doesn't want to have become obsolete after she buys it)
It sounds a bit early for a major iBook update, but does anyone else know something about this?
I had tried explaing my view being that there'll always be a update "right around the corner", and that if she needs one, buy it now.
oh well it doesn't really matter to me as she's already promised me her current Laptop (G3 Powerbook) which I'm going to put a G4 upgrade in. I'm just trying to get MY new laptop sooner then later ;-)

It wouldn't surprise me if there was an update soon on the Paris Mac Expo. But you never know with Apple.

i don't know what it means, but you can get a 14 inch 900mhz refurb ibook for $1299 at a couple of places...
that seems pretty low to me.
i got a feeling that something is definitely on the way before christmas. This is the 'year of the laptop' after all.
I'm thinking maybe a g4 867-933 with no L3 cache so as to allow a suitable powerbook bump.

this is mostly conjecture, and I'm most likely wrong, so you might do good not to listen to me:
it looks like the powerbooks will be upgraded before the ibook line, maybe at the paris expo.
The G3FX processor currently in the ibooks tops out at 900Mhz (see here, look at the table). They can go up to 1Ghz, I think, but that's all IBM's manufacturing. In December, IBM will begin making the G3GX, making them up to 1.1GHz. It looks like this is the next processor for the ibook, and it's a pretty nice one. After the powerbooks are upgraded, Apple will throw the G3GX and some new **** in the ibook. See here (scroll down a bit) for more speculation on the future of the G3.
To sum up: early 2004. Maybe. Don't even listen to me.

The word "obsolete" is used way too much. Just because a newer computer comes out does not mean that your current system is obsolete. Outdated maybe, but not obsolete. As long as a computer does what you need it to do, it's not obsolete.
Sorry for the short rant

"The Year of the Notebook" really had to do with this being the year that notebooks sold a higher percentage then desktops. This was not a promise for G5s in Powerbooks, G4s in iBooks, etc.
