If the new 15" powerbook that gets introduced next week is based on the 7457 processor and the top speed is 1.25G, what are the disadvantages of just purchased what would hopefully be an even more discounted Ti.
Here are the ones I've came up with, if there are more please let me know. Not considering ports on back a disadvantage b/c thats where I prefer them.
loss of .25G processor speed
no FW800
no USB2.0
no backlit keyboard
no internal BT
I'm not sure that these will be worth what I'm hoping is a huge price difference between the new and old 15" 'books.
Thanks!
Michael

Also:
802.11b vs g
133 MHz bus vs 167
Video card (Probably faster in the new 15" Alus)
Screen size (The TiBook might actually be bigger, if rumours are correct.)
DDR memory (which is almost meaningless with the G4s)
Personally, I think the most important difference will be the speed. Maybe BlueTooth for some people. (BlueTooth dongles are a pain, but I never use BlueTooth so big deal for me.)

One of the big additions I am looking for in the new Powerbooks is compatibility with Airport Extreme. I have a nice 802.11g wireless router all ready for a new 15". Now I am just waiting.
Built-in bluetooth will be very cool especially if BT mice are introduced!

I'm still hoping for a 200MHz bus with the 7457, and the corresponding processor speeds (1.3 or 1.4GHz would be nice). That would make a big difference to me, as I personally prefer the looks of the Ti and the ports on the back...

from everything i've seen and read, build quality on the new Al books is much better, much stiffer and sturdier, and no paint issues.

Also, the airport reception of the 15" Al PB should be much better than that of the 15" Ti PB.

Happy owner of a new 15" Al PB.

Sorry to sound stupid, but that is the difference between the Ti (Titanium?) and the Al (Aluminum?).
Thanks.

Exactly..Ti = Titanium Al = Aluminum
The TiBook is the older enclosure. The screen hinge is different, the ports are on the back, no support for Airport Extreme, no built in bluetooth, etc.
The AlBook is the new enclosure that the 12 and 17" PB sport. Support for Airport Extreme, built-in bluetooth, backlit keyboard (17), ports on the side, etc.
The Albooks are suppose to be sturdier and better constructed.

I'm just thinking if the new powerbook is just a speed bupped g4, I might just get a Tibook and wait out the G5 Powerbook.

I'm holding back to see what comes down on tuesday. I'm secretly hoping its more than 1.25Gig bump. Its been a long time since a Rev. I might spring for a refurb'ed Ti for my college kid-if the Al doesn't materialize.

Must be nice to have a parent buy a 'book for you... heck I'd be appreciative if either of my parents paid for a used textbook I'm a premed student and have been saving for this for a while now just waiting. I really hope Apple doesn't disappoint me. Although already a little disappointed b/c I hate the idea of ports on the side.

So there is no Al 15'' yet?
I was about to get a Ti 15'', but it sounds like I'd much rather have Al 15''. Hrmm.. How come they have a Al 12'' and Al 17'' and no Al 15'' yet?
