I'm thinking of getting one of the 15 inch powerbooks with the superdrive. Does anyone think there will be an update on tuesday? So should I buy it now or later? With my education discount, I can get it from apple for $2299. Is that a relativley good deal, or should I go somewhere like smalldog? Thanks, Tim

All the rumor sites says the retail channels are almost empty of PBs. That's a sign that Apple is going to update real soon now...

I just talked to my dad today, who is in the market for a 12" PowerBook. He was at the Apple Store near St. Louis the other day, and because I'd previously told him about the current PB situation, he grilled the sales guy about it. As usually, the guy kept saying, "Apple keeps us in the dark too -- we don't know anything." My dad told him he wasn't in any hurry to buy one right away anyway, then they talked about Panther a little bit, and then right as my dad was leaving the sales guy handed him his business card and kind of lowered his voice and said, "Check the Web site on Tuesday."

He could have been talking about Panther. But I think he was referring to the PowerBooks. I know most people probably expect PowerBooks on Tuesday now, but just one more piece of fuel for the fire.

Yeah we have been hearing that forever though. People have reported seeing palettes at stores, etc. Employees been telling people not to buy, etc.

Same story since May of this year. We'll see. . .

know what you mean - i'm in two minds as well. sounds like there may not be any updates announced tomorrow, but they're long overdue so can't be too long now.
