I have an 800mhz g3 Ibook, 384mb of ram, 30gb hd, cdrw. 12in display. When I am using it would pulsate or the screen would brighten/dim. Its seems like its a loose connection but I am not sure exactly. Its very hard to recreate so i am not sure if I should take it in or not right now. Its still under warrenty. Anyone has any ideas what it may be or what I can tell the technicians what to look for? Thank you for any information you can provide - Grady

Hi gradyjoslin and welcome to those forums,

I had real bad video problems on my iBook too, and it turned so bad that they had to change the logic board (mother board)... It only took a week and it was within the 3 first month I bought it. and we have been hundreds with the same bug and solution!....
I hope that your machine is still under waranty..
I dont know it is exacly your problem, but back-up your HD ASAP and ask to your local dealer what they think about it (and if they can change your board to a 900! ;o)

Take care.

Grady,

By now, you may have gone thru the "screen frizzle-stage" . . . this happened to me a few days ago, and then, no screen at all. Call Apple asap. They'll send you a repair box and they have a good turnaround (fortunately).

They did tell me there is a $49 backup service for your HD. I am lucky, however, as I know someone who has a new powerbook, and I could backup (save) the entire contents of my iBook (same as yours, but 40 gig HD).

It's easy -- get your backup machine turned on -- connect 2 computers via firewire cable -- startup your machine, and at the chime, hold down the "T" key. It puts your HD in "Target Disk" mode . . . it will show up on the other machine as a firewire drive pretty quickly . . . .

It's amazing! I just made a folder, and transferred the entire 40gigs in about 2 hours. Try it (you'll like it so much, you'll forget about the problem you're having in the first place).

Yes, I experienced the same problem with an iBook 12" - 30 Gb - 800hz - 256 Mb. Freezing screen. They had to change the motherboard after only 8 months of life. Now it's ok, but I think the monitor is a quite weak part in these Macs...

Funny that thing with the HD... thanks!
