I got my 17" PB on friday
I love it but it has been running smooth first it would not update to 10.2.6 so I had to use the software restore back to 10.2.4 just to get it to work
tonight I had a crash with that multiple language crash box poping up.
after turning it off I cant get it to restart...
when I do I get a white screen with "Floating Point Unavailable"
type "mac-boot
or "shut-down"
if I mac-boot I only got a small folder with a question mark then it has the finder smiley face
what can I do to finally enjoy my new 17" PB?
the ram is at 1gb

I hate to break it to you but it sounds like the processor in your powerbook is a dud. FPU error = a small part of the processor fried.
Sooo sorry dude!! Good luck getting it replaced! (or fixed?)

The multiple language error screen comes up when there's a kernel panic.
That screen with the mac-boot and shutdown is the firmware, which is responsible of starting up the Mac.
If the firmware can't see the floating point unit, it seems to me there's something seriously wrong with the processor. (Or maybe the firmware is just misinterpreting the whole thing.)
Can you still start it up from the CD?
Was the RAM preinstalled?

Did you install the ram or did apple?
If it's apple installed RAM, may I suggest letting Apple remove it, just to make any warrantee questions so much simpler to answer.
It shouldn't matter (it's a user serviceable part), but it can make things go a little smoother since they can't blame you for anything that went wrong inside if you've never opened up the case.

called applecare again the walked me through removing the ram - the extra ram is sure cheap looking when compared to the Samsung ram Apple uses.
but the PB still did not work Apple is sending a Box for me to ship in for repairs
I called the company who got it for me and told them what was going on and they want to replace it for me. I don't trust them now and the cheap vendor they got it from but maybe I should trade in for the upgrade from Paris Expo?
