So I'm in the boat of going to buy tonight, and I'm assuming there will be two 15in models. Here's my issue: suppose there's two models: 1.3 ghz and 1.0 ghz just for arguments sake, and both G4. I'd be perfectly happy with the 1.0 ghz, just because I'm guessing its battery life will be better. This would only be true if the 1.3 is just an overclocked 7457, right? But what if the 1.3 is 7457 and the 1.0 is 7455? Great, get the 7457, but how will I _know_ that it's a 7457 and the other is a 7455? I won't. Unless ye great chip knowing types are up and would deign to inform me based on technical specs (i.e., cache size or something) which is which. I would greatly appreciate it!

Looking forward to all the action tonight!

Probably it won't take long before someone posts this. Watch this site, MacRumors, AppleInsider forums and Ars Technica.

I believe the 7455 has 256k L2 cache. Don't quote me on that one, but I think I read somewhere that the difference between the 7455 and 7457 is the size of the L2 cache, and that the 7455 is in the new iMac. Am I right, or sorely mislead?

I'd bet a nickel there will not be a new 15" aluminum PowerBook that runs at only 1Ghz. If there are two new models, I expect they'll be running at 1.1 and 1.25 Mhz or something like that, both with 7457 processors. If Apple was satisfied with 1Ghz, we'd have seen it months ago.

Yeah the 7457 has double the amount of L2 Cache. And hopefully Motorola got their Low-K technology to work on it. And it should be an awesome chip.

The 7457 doesn't need to be over clocked to reach 1.3GHz. Yields suppose to allow 1.0GHz to 1.3GHz. People are pointing towards 1.25GHz and a 1.3GHz. We'll see in less than 4hrs.
