I've been following Apple closely since I saw the first Titanium. I was going to wait for Panther to start shipping, but I knew once they finally updated the Powerbooks I wouldn't be able to wait anymore.

So I ordered my first Apple today, a 12" Powerbook. I'm really excited, I hope my experience with it is as good as so many others have expressed.

Wow, congratulations!!!

You have no idea how awesome that computer is going to be to you! I have the original 12" PB and I love it...you've picked an awesome Mac to be your first! Did you order it stock or with any BTO options?

You won't regret it. The 17" PB is my first Mac, still loving it.

I got the 80gb hard drive, and the airport extreme card. I'm also going to order a 512mb dimm from another vendor since Apple's Memory prices are kinda ridiculous

Oh, and I got a sleeve from www.sfbags.com

Wow, perfect choices! You really knew what you were doing! The 80GB upgrade & AE card are must-haves, and kudos on buying RAM from somewhere else, you'll save a ton doing that. When does your order status say it'll ship out?

It says "On or before 09/25/2003" I can deal with that Certainly better then what the Dual G5 people have had to go through.

The new 12" is quite a significant upgrade over the old 12". The speed will now be in the same ballpark as my old 1 GHz TiBook (whereas the old 867 12" was significantly slower than the old 867 15"). Plus the presence of DVI now makes it a no-brainer for those wanting something small and portable.

Congrats! I love my 12-in PB. When I got mine, a 60 GB was the biggest drive; I think you're smart to get the biggest hard drive possible. (My desktop is only 20 GB and that's really small by today's standards.)

I got a little caught up today in buyer's remorse, until I kicked myself to remind myself that I'd already been waiting MONTHS for the January keynote. I've been using my machine for 7 months now and have never been sorry. Plus, this is really perfect for me; I would not have wanted to pay extra for the 15-inch screen.

And 9/25 is only 9 days away! We who ordered in January had to wait weeks. It seemed even long-g-g-g-g-g-er, too...

Congrats again.

Uh... question about Apple's web store. I thought they didn't charge your card until the items actually shipped?

Apple already dinged my card for $1700 and some dollars this morning, which alerted my credit card company and they then locked out the account after that. Hmmm...

My order status on Apple's site still says open with an expected ship date on or before 9/25...

That's kind of annoying :-/

Congrats!!! My first Mac (since the Apple II) was about a year ago. I was one of those Winblows user for sometime until I saw the 'Switch' ad campaign and decided to check out the iMac. I bought the iMac 15 for a simple desktop and was hooked from there. OSX is simply beautiful and easy to learn. From there, I got the TiPB to swap out my Vaio. You're going to love the PB, whether it's a 12, 15 or 17.

This is most likely great news. By legal laws, Apple cannot charge your card unless your item will ship within 72 hours of their charge (an Apple rep. informed me of this) so you may get a surprise email rather soon that it's shipped sooner than expected!

Strongly recommend to ANYONE getting a PB to increase the drive size to the max. The Al 'books are much harder to upgrade HDs in for a novice than the Ti or the G3's. I filled my 40 GB in about a week...

I totally agree. You could never have too much storage as you never know what you'll be downloading and or installing next week, or a year from now. Upgrading the HDs in the AlBooks does indeed look like a nightmare so max them out now!
