I was looking at the specs on the new Powerbooks and noticed this under Audio:
Built-in stereo speakers with midrange-enhancing third speaker (12-inch and 15-inch models)
Is this new? I have a TiBook 400 and always found the speakers to be a little tiny sounding. Do the new models sound that much better?
BTW, the 17" only has 2 speakers. I guess they are big enough not to matter.

My 12" PB actually sounds really good considering it's a laptop...you can actually watch DVD's on it and hear what's going on. I dare say Apple's laptop speakers are the best in the biz.

This 3 speaker setup is not new, but only appeared in the 12" AlBook when it was first introduced. I am VERY happy they incorporated this setup into the 15" AlBook because the sound coming from the 12" AlBook is amazing considering that they are notebook speakers. There is actually a slight 3D sound with dare I say a feeling of Bass to go along with the highs. The best speakers I've ever heard coming from stock notebook speakers and I only hope the 15" AlBook sounds the same. I wonder why they didn't incorporate this into the 17" model? Surely there's room?

Excellent! I can't wait for 10.3 to be released so I can upgrade from my TiBook.

Probably because there was room for 2 proper-size drivers for the left/right channels.
For ther 12/15, they have tiny drivers for left/right, and one decent size driver for the mid-range enhancement.
