I placed my order on 9/16 at about 9:30 ET for a custom configured 1.25GHz 15". I have an estimated ship date of 9/23
My order was originally in the "Order Received" Status, but late Tuesday morning it changed to the "Open" status.
Does Apple typically authorize your credit card (put on a hold on your limit) for the full amount close to the shipping time? They have only held a couple of dollars at this point.
Also, what does "Open" mean exactly? Does that mean that the order has been approved and is being assembled, or would the credit card be authorized for the full amount prior to being assembled?
I'm pretty anxious if you can't tell
Thanks for the info

After they charge your card for your order, you can expect it to ship within 72 hours.

I'm not sure what "open" means but it doesn't mean "being assembled." When your order is being assembled it'll say so (i.e. "being assembled").
Maybe someone else can help you with the meaning of "open." Or you can try calling Apple and letting us know what it means .

I am also in the same position as yourself, as mine says it will ship on or before the 23rd of the month. Mine also says its open, which I believe means that apple is looking at it and its just in line to be put together. They have also charged myself a few dollars, that is normal though, as every order I have gotten through the apple store they usually charge my card a few bucks just to make sure its valid. I think I wont get my custom al until monday, but if they somehow managed to get it to me by friday, well I would be one happy camper.

What I'm wondering is this- I ordered my computer at 6:00 AM EST (about 3:00 AM Apple Time) and people who ordered after me had their order opened and shipped before me! So far only my printer has shipped, and neither the iPod or the PowerBook have been shipped. What gives?

Did you BTO anything? They would probably be able to pull stock 'books from a pile somewheres, but a BTO (any BTO) would require a pull from the line. I assume that's what happened to mine: On or before 9/23 ship date; ordered yesterday. Someone else I saw ordered just after me, and it shipped already.
If you didn't BTO, then I'm sorry.

What does my order status message mean?
Order Received: Your order has been received but has not begun processing. In most cases, Apple can begin processing your order in approximately 45 minutes from the time you place your order on-line and may take longer depending on large quantity orders or method of payment.
Open: Your order or order line has begun processing but has not yet shipped. Once your order is “open,” Apple will provide you the estimated dates that your products will ship from its distribution sites.
Partially Shipped: Part of your order or order line has shipped from Apple’s warehouse(s) and is in transit to your designated shipping address on the selected carrier.
Shipped: All items on your order or order line have shipped from Apple’s warehouse(s).
Electronically Delivered: Your electronic software product(s) or activation key has been issued to you.
Completed: Your order containing electronic software products, .Mac or iPhoto products has been processed completely or shipped.
Cancelled: All items on your order or order line have been cancelled.
Action Required: Your order has been received but it cannot be processed due to incomplete payment or lack of other important information. Once you have provided this information, Apple can continue processing your order and will provide you with the estimated dates your products will ship from its distribution sites.
Hope that helps!
My PB15 SD shipping on or before 9/15....I can't wait!!!!
