Reuters - Cupertino
Representatives for Apple Computer today admitted that Tuesday's announcement of new Powerbook, including the elusive 15" Aluminum Powerbook, was indeed a mistake and is officially "unannouncing" these new Powerbooks. Spokesperson Itsa Jokeok was quoted as saying:
"We had initially planned on waiting another 6 months to release these machines, and that's not counting the 2-3 month shipping period. How this happened is still a mystery, but whoever loaded Steve's keynote presentation will surely be getting some mean looks in the elavator next week."
Apple customers that have already purchased the new machines are advised to return them the the place of purchase, where they be exchanged for an outdated Titanium PowerBook, a free paint repair kit, and a random sarcastic comment

This goes with the G5 shipping deal, eh? Here's my take on it.
Apple released the G5 at WWDC for a reason- they were telling DEVELOPERS that they were releasing a new computer with a new archetecture. Developers generally should know that stuff before us, because they need to make the software that'll run the stuff. We all know that IBM wasn't shipping the PPC 970 til later in volume, yet everybody ordered, and even with a warning that they won't ship til the end of August, everybody has been b!tching and moaning that "Apple can never deliver" and "Apple shouldn't release products they can't ship." It's sorta getting annoying. Apple just released 20 and 40 gig iPods and they were available immediately. The new PowerBooks are available right now! With the exception of the 1GB boards of RAM, people have 3-5 day ship dates. I'd say that's pretty good. Dual G5's are shipping volume right now, while the 1.6 and 1.8 GHz models are packed into stockrooms of stores across the country.
G5 oweners were warned that they won't start shipping til the end of August, and most have already been shipped. I think people need to stop ragging on Apple. Most of the delays aren't their fault.

Apple just can't win with the babies out there. If you would stop to consider the business issues that drive some of these decisions, you might not make a fool of yourself complaining. Apple needed to intro the G5 so education could get their orders on the books, not to mention they didn't want to endure another quarter of sluggish desktop sales. So how were you harmed? They announce the G5, but they won't be available for X number of months. Boo hoo! People complain when Apple doesn't tell you what's coming, then they complain when Apple releases something out of the blue all hush, hush.

This would kind of maybe been funny if it wasn't for the fact that the new 15" and 17" are in stock at most Apple stores (12" is a month away, says Apple).

I believe I may vastly overrated the average mac user's capacity to perceive a joke. As penance, I'll be whittling a massive wooden statue of Steve in my garage. Carry on!

Boy you can say that again! Maybe Apple will eventually figure out how to deliver exciting, revolutionary new products with no delay and with no surprises and without making their old products seem at all obsolete or leaving any people who bought their them feeling even a twinge of jealousy.

Where do people get this 1 month information? Since the day they were announced I have been quoted shipping on or before 9/25.
I posted a screen shot of my order and shipping time in this thread.
Who was told 1 month?

Oh my lord, you must be on crack. Out of everyone I know that ordered Duals (some CTO, some stock, most all of them Edu. Inst. orders), not a single one has shipped. I'm talking over 50 G5 machines from schools that have great standing with Apple and routinely drop hundreds of thousands of dollars every few months on their kit.
Not a SINGLE ONE. ALL delayed, just like everyone else's. "Shipping to education customers first" my ASS. =P

This might be funny if I'm still in the PC only world. But as a Mac user... not funny.
