Just outta curiosity folks...

Have the noises been sorted through updates?

I was reading the apple discussions and noticed a couple people have put their sizzles and screechs to rest for ever more...

Apparently after installing the new java update they vanished - Anyone else found this to be the case?

Im still on 10.2.4 so I wanna see if its worth the download time for both 10.2.6 plus the java update as im stuck with dreaded dial up at the moment.

Anyone with 10.2.6 and with the Java update experiance the nullifcation of the sizzle and screech??

Cheers

Hmm, I'll have to pay attention. My PB17 sizzle is something I have to listen for to hear.

On the other hand, the java update seems to have made my sleep light dysfunctional!

Nope, I have all the updates, but after I turn off my fans and have my room completely quite, I can still hear it. It's still there.

If it sounded like sizzling bacon I would be annoyed but I must put my ear 3 inches from the keyboard to hear it.

...mmmmm....I want some Toast n Jam with my frying chips...

The "SCREECH" usually only happens in Safari but to me it sounds more like I am listening to the pleasing sound of crickets in the country.
Guess it depends on how you look at it.

The sizzles and fizzles were around on PowerBooks for a lot longer than the 17"... my TiBook 800 sizzles and fizzles, and it also does a beautiful Apple Help/Safari screech.

The best way to hear whether new models can do without the noise is to start Macromedia Fireworks MX (2002) or Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004. In DW MX 04, the sizzling sound is quite loud, and it is permanent: as long as the app is open, in the foreground, and you move the cursor, the PowerBook fizzles, even when no document is open. I really wonder how they managed to do this.

hmmm, okay... Thanx everyone for your input ... Thought the updates might've sorted these noises.

Im not really bothered about the sizzle anymore, the noise that is bothering me a lil is the slight high pitched screech - not the safari mega screech but the mini one that seems to be from the power - it stops when CPU is taxed - when disconected from power adapter and if reduced processor is on. Sorrta the same ball game to cap the sizzle.(you can hear the pitch slightly change when moving cursor over the dock etc)

I assume this is just a power hum - Anyone else have this? Again, doesnt faze me that much, just would like to know if you guyz have experianced the same anomaly?

Cheers

Wow, first I've heard of any kind of screech. Is this also a problem on the newer 15" and 17"? Just wondering because i'm considering in buying one.

I wondered that myself.

Maybe 10.2.7 (installed on new PBs) does get rid of the problem. Or is this a hardware thing?

It is hardware. You'll find it discussed in old threads here -- something to to with a power modulator or whatnot thingy.

Don't worry, though: it seems that a) not all PBs have it and/or b) not all PB owners can hear it. It's not loud or anything, only disturbing when it is really quiet, like when you're working at home, and have no radio playing and no G4 tower nearby.
