Here's the problem. When my iBook starts to go to screensaver or from screensaver to sleep (not sure which one b/c it always happens when i leave my computer on and walk away for a while), the screen turns off and won't turn back on no matter what key i type or if i hit the power button. When I put my ear up to the hard drive area, i can still hear it spinning. The only solution is for me to unplug my iBook and take out the battery to 'restart' it so that i can use my computer again. Anybody know what's wrong and how to fix it?

Under preferences > energy saver, i use the same time to put the display and computer to sleep, i put the hard disk to sleep when possible... This happened last night and again tonight (and also several times before i had my entire motherboard changed due to other problems) HELP Please!

Assuming it is not your motherboard malfunctioning, your computer should respond after it goes to sleep to any key pressed or trackpad movement. Try pressing F2 just to make sure you have not dimmed your display.

If you have to restart don't remove the battery. Press Control-Command-Power. Or press power for 6 seconds to shut down, then press it again to restart. (Of course do this only in emergencies).

Otherwise your problem is the motherboard, just like mine. When I put my iBook to sleep by closing the lid it will sometimes either turn off when waking or wake the computer but not the display. I'm currently talking to Apple about this problem. Hardware check and reinstalling the OS has not resolved it. My final step will be to remove the RAM tonight.

I had this kind of problem in the past. If you don't already, make sure you've updated to the latest version of OS X. I think I actually had more problems when I was running 10.1 than in 10.2.

If that's not possible, try disabling the screen saver or sleep mode. I think there might have been a conflict between the two (or perhaps with automatic sleep alone).

thanks. i will try out your suggestions next time it happens... i really hope it's not the motherboard b/c i ALREADY got that replaced. I have had 10.2.6 for a while now, so it's not that and the screen was definitely not dimmed. So far i'm just 'unclicking' the box that says 'put hard drive to sleep when possible'... it would really suck if i can't have a screensaver... what kind of computer won't let you run a screensaver b/c it will turn off on you? lol... arg. stupid computer. thanks again!

I forgot, screen dimming too (Under Energy Saver in System Settings). Just another thing to add to the mix of my previous post.
