I like the 17 size, so I think the 15Al are still a little small...

just went to tekserve.. played with the 15 inch.... WOW.. the screen looks amazing... does the Ti look as good?

the 12 inch screen looked terrible next to it... not the size, the brightness... it's just not up to par with the 15 or 17...

but even the 17 inch looked bad next to the 15 inch....

the 15 inch is the perfect size for a notebook on a desk... just perfect... 17 inch, to me, looks very strange....

I agree, I like the size for my work, but after comparing the 1.25 to the 1.33. the 1.25 screen is brighter and easier to see. I may have to give up on the desktop real estate.

The whole point of having different screen sizes is so that each person can get the one that meets their individual needs. The 15" meets yours. Great! Go buy that one!

For me, 12" is best. I'm a student, and want something that can take notes in lectures, but can also function as a main computer when I get back to my room. I'll be running stats packages and word processing, along with net access. The portability of the 12", combined with the fact that it's still fairly powerful, is ideal for me.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

17" for me ! I really enjoy the size of my Rev.A 17" at first I thought maybe it would be too big, but the size has really grown on me. I don't think its too big for lugging around at all. In fact its just a little bigger to my eye compaired to the 15 and so thats not bad at all. I don't think I could go back to a smaller screen after the 17" to be quite honest. Anyway, since I've already had my 17 for 6 month its not worth upgrading and then for a better one to come out 6 month later with a G5 processor inside is it? I'm happy I took the plundge when the 17 came out. I have the same specs except 9600 GPU, 1.33 CPU, and USB2 and a bigger HD so why spend all that money for something just a little better when u can safe the money when what everyone really want (the G5 PB) comes out and get that?

Looking at it in the store is not the same as using everyday. I used the 12" ibook for two years and when I upgraded to the 17" PB I felt like I was let out of a cage. I also had less headaches and eye strain. This is my only machine and I would never go back to a smaller machine. I mostly work at a desk with it, but even on my lap it never feels too big.

I went to the Apple Store at the International Mall, Tampa FL to take a look at the powerbooks before I ordered one online (if I could use my developer hardware discount in store I'd be typing on one now instead of this horrible WinXP machine). They have the 12" 15" and 17" next to each other, and I couldn't help notice that next to the 12" the 15" looked a little blurry. The Tis i've seen at CompUSA definitely looked a lot less clear than the 12"s they had on display. Regardless, I put in an order for my 15" the minute I got home. I'm hoping it was just the lighting in store, or whatnot.

The disparity in the thread is probably a good indication as to why Apple now has 3 sizes of PowerBook. For the "portability uber alles" types, there's the 12-inch. For the people who want a hardcore desktop replacement, there's the 17-inch. And for those of us who want something right in the middle, there's of course the 15-inch.

Part of why I got the 15-incher was because it seemed to be just about right. A higher resolution than the iBook (and later, the 12-inch PB), but still a manageable size.

And more importantly, faster!

If they gave a good screen to the 12 inch... a better one that is and fixed the heat issue(not sure how they can) that would be an even better seller....

but for now, I bet the 15 inch will win overall.. probably 40% to the 15, 30% to the others....

I recently had to do some work on a Pismo and a TiPB after using this PB17 for the last 6 months.

When I had the TiPB, it was not that big a difference in screen real estate over the Pismo.

But switching down from this PB17, it felt like I was trapped. I have really changed my computer habits now that I always have a nice screen with me,

I think the 15 PB folk will be very happy with their machines, if they are even half as happy as I am with this PB17!
