To all those who received your new Powerbooks, congratulations! I had a question on how people were cloning their current systems onto the new Powerbooks. I did not think these new computers would boot with 10.2.6 right? If I used Carbon Copy Cloner to move everything except /System over, I would have a semi accurate copy of my old setup. I know that the odd item (like Quicktime MPEG2 components) would need to be reinstalled.

I know nothing should ever write to /System/Library, but I have this paranoid feeling that there are other things that would be left behind.

One possible solution would be to use ditto or psync to move the 10.2.7 /System onto my current setup and then boot from that and ditto or psync everything back.

Just wanted to know what everyone else was doing.

I used Carbon Copy Cloner to copy everything over, then upgraded 10.2.6 to 10.2.7 using the supplied DVD.

There were a couple of glitches: the system preference pane cache had to be deleted - system was still showing keyboard and mouse as separate panes, while they're now one, and I had to re-install StuffIt Deluxe.

Other than the occasional application that had to be re-registered, it seems to be working so far.

One tip: if you use the iTunes Music Store, remember to deauthorize your old PowerBook, as the authorization is hardware-based.

Wow. Thanks. I completely forgot about iTunes!
