Okay I know I have been asking a lot but it all comes down to this...

is $225.00 worth it to get a spped upgrade on the 15 inch from 1.0 Ghz to 1.25 Ghz... and a backlit KB?

What do you guys think?

keep in mind I will only use the PB for everyday things, i.e. Web, Office, Note taking, some gaming, etc etc....

I don't think you'll notice the speed. If you want the backlit keyboard; then by all means - get it.

Don't forget that the upgrade from the 1.0 to 1.25 GHz models also brings a SuperDrive, AirPort Extreme, and 512 MB of RAM. I don't know if that's what you added, but that's what the top end ships with... quite kickass for $225 difference, eh?

If you've already added all that crap, then I don't think you'll notice anything too drastic between the two models as of yet. Remember, the 1.25 GHz machine is 25% faster in clock though.

Think about it like this...

If you're dead set on getting a 15" PowerBook and you don't want or need the SuperDrive, then select the "high end" model and pair down some or all of the options to offset the increased cost of a faster processor.

From what I've read online, a lot of people are doing this, and I'm one of 'em -- I ditched the SD, and knocked the HD down a notch, while keeping all of the other perks.

It appears that Apple is allowing some of us to have our cake and eat it too.

I have already put all that into consideration.
Basically I am comparing the cost of the 1.25 Ghz slimmed down to a Combo drive,60G HD. still including Airport and Backlit keyboard...
versus getting the 1ghz, combo, 60 GB... I am also adding the after market Airport and RAM..

Basically same exact systems the only difference is the .25 GHz differece, plus the Keyboard, but I can defiently live without the light-up keyboard...

I am leaning towards the more economical 1Ghz. For the $, and also because I can just drive to the store and get it. Whereas the 1.25 Ghz is a BTO option in which I pay the 225 difference plus wait about a week to get it....
