I have used a Pismo, then moved to the TiBook 1 gig in December and am needing another notebook for our work. I get to have the new one. Here is my problem. I want to be more portable but I am fearful that the 12” will not be big enough in the screen. I mostly do typing and some desktop publishing (Adobe InDesign) and the screen (15) is nice but will the 12 work? Can or do you not notice the difference? - any suggestions or personal experiences will be a wonderful help!

Currrently running a 12" iBook--same resolution. It's not bad to do work on, honestly. But, having a desktop is almost a must in this case. If it's going to be your only machine, go 15", is my recommendation. I'm sticking with a 12" because my workflow has desktops as supplementary workstations (or vice-versa).

i am thinking about the same thing. I have a pismo also, and i have to commute about hour and a half to work everyday. So it is kind of heavy to me.

The new 15" only 0.3 lb less than the pismo but like i said before, if you have to carry it for two hours on your back, it is just too much.

the 12" is just right, but i just wonder the performance is not up to par with the 15"

The good news is that the new 12" can connect to the apple display, so you don't have to force to use that tiny litte screen to work.

In my mind, one of the main drawbacks of the 12" is that the screen isn't as sharp as the 15". It's a TFT XGA, which is a step down from TFT. If it were my main machine, my eyes would get tired from the fuzziness. Of course, it all depends on how many hours you're staring at the screen.

i haven't seen the new 12", so i can't say it is equal or worse to the new 15" screen. but i agree that the new 15" is little bit shaper than the old 12" powerbook. Hopefully the new 12" would arrive this week for me to check it out.

"xga" has nothing to do with the quality of the screen - it has to do with the resolution. a TFT is a TFT, just like a TFD is a TFD and an STN is an STN. =)

What's with the recent surge of unknowledgeable posts? first someone saying how NiMH batteries are the "new best thing", and now how a "TFT XGA is worse than a TFT."

Dammit do some research! http://www.google.com

Isn't logic swell? It gives answers without really answering anything!

I worked as a design consultant (lots of in-design work) and had to provide my own computer. For six months I got to work by walking uphill for 15 minutes in the equatorial morning sun with my 15 inch Ti 667 strapped to my back... and I'm a skinny weakling. Truthfully it wasn't all that bad... just make sure you get a nice bag. My wife has the 12 inch and the difference in screen real-estate is REALLY noticeable. I actually find the difference in screen size is more noticeable than the difference in weight.
