I'm a college student and just purchased my first mac. Well I want to make sure it lasts, since I will be taking it everywhere with me. The problem is I don't know exactly how I want to go about doing this.
I currently have a Northface Recon backpack. Its really nice, but when I carry around 50lbs of books, its going to crush my powerbook I think? Unless I can find a small metal casing(thats fits the pb exactly) that can withstand a large amount of pressure I am going to have to go with a different bag I think?
If I were to go with a different bag I would prefer it being REALLY small, but very protective. I would like to basically just have it fit the powerbook, and nothing else since I have a backpack for the rest of my stuff. Probably an arm strap also. Does anyone have any suggestions on a bag or what I should do.
I take it most of you who carry around your powerbook and have lots of books prefer two bags?
Thanks

I've heard of these, but dont know which one is best. I think i might buy one, I want a bag as small as possible all it needs to hold is
1) 15 inch powerbook
2) few accessories (xtra battery, charger, mouse)
3) Ipaq
Here are the links i've found. If anyone has experience with these let me know.
I want the bag to be as discreet/fashionable/messengerbag-ish as possible..
I'd like it to have some padding, but it shouldnt be a bulky laptop bag. I want something that looks like it doesnt have a laptop in it. Since i did buy a laptop thinner than almost any other laptop.

BooqBags' Powersleeve15. I bought one several months back. IMHO, it is:
1. very well-constructed (ballistic nylon)
2. looks sleek and stylish
3. costs less than competitor's
4. padding is excellent

I definitely agree. I picked up the PS17 for my PowerSlab and I love it. I have the same problem as you, I didn't want to carry my PB in my book bag, so now I carry it in my booq bag. Hahaha! Haha...ha... Sorry.
*edit* Oh yeah, and they have a banner running on this very site advertising 15% off. That always appeals to the wallet.

Here i found this website:
They are called crumpler bags, if you try to navigate thru the domain root, its a little odd. But here a link directly to the product page. Crumpler Bags
My intention is that this thread becomes the "official powerbook bag" thread. If it doesn't i'll try again by posting allt he links that end up in this thread over again

Welcome to the forums!
If you do a search, you will find scores of threads on bags. If it's out there and it can hold a Powerbook, then it's been reviewed here already. With one exception I think. Anyone know how much of a difference there is in new Waterfield sleeve for the 15" from the old one?

It has one of the best padding of any I have seen or read about. Sorry, I know that may not be specific enough. Let me put it this way, I feel comfortable and confident to just use my PowerBook Sleeve as the only protection for my PowerBook. Oh, btw they also offer:
100% Lifetime Warranty
All bags made by Booq carry a lifetime repair warranty.
I think that says a great deal about their craftsmanship and quality.
The cool thing was that I just stumbled onto their site and decided to get it based upon their claims, but after using it I can say it was well worth it. Damn, I should go work in their advertising department! Hehehe.

While I can't answer your question precisely, you can e-mail Gary or call him. He is very reachable.
I ordered a 17" sleeve at 4pm yesterday and Airborne showed up this morning (Saturday) with it.
Waterfield really has good service up their sleeve, pardon the pun.
The sleeve is very cozy and well fitting; I opted for the the velcro closure flap because of the carry bag I have and wanted nothing metallic to contact the Powerbook.
My prior Ti Powerbook sleeve was from Timbuk2 and served me well and was very well padded without being bulky although the entire top was open with a plastic clasp buckle for closure; It went to the new owner.
My only annoyance with the 17" is the LCD brightness varies up and down periodically and I haven't figured why yet. Also the lack of level 2 cache is ticking me off; my old Ti 800mhz had more zip and response than this 1.33 mhz has, but I'll have to defer until I load up on 2gb memory and as rob-ART Morgan from barefeats.com suggested, the Hitachi 7200 rpm HD with 8mb cache from transintl.com . Also, battery life is nothing to rave about either, nor is the coffee grinder sounding fan when running Virtual PC which crawls along compared to the Ti 800 Powerbook.
Oh well, I'm through. Sorry to voice my disappointment here.
Hope this helps someone.

I was juggling between a timbuk2 and chrome messanger bag for my 17". I ended up going with the chrome bag and timbuk2 xxl sleeve. They are nice alternatives to the standard briefcase bag design which bugs me. The sleeve is nice for taking the laptop around without the bag, and the sleeve has no zippers which is an added plus. Also the bag can double as a regular bag and isn't just a laptop bag. It is also waterproof and sits snug against my back. I ride a scooter so I needed something like this. I love my bag, It doesn't say, "hey look at me there is a laptop in here"

I just got a Timbuk2 Commute bag, which may be a little bigger than you want, as it does have room for more than just your PB and a couple cables, but it still feels very slim. On the outside it looks like a very stylish messenger bag, definitely not the kind of thing you'd expect to have a laptop inside. It's padded on the back, rubberized on the bottom, and has a padded slot for the computer inside the main compartment. Lots of other little pockets, too.
One thing, the Al 15" just makes it into the slot, so if you're getting a 17" this will not work.
You can see the one I got here: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...5.10.3.22.13.0 (it looks really fat in the pictures, and while it can hold that much stuff, it's much thinner if there's less in it.)
