Hi,

I've been looking for a 'sleeve' with the following characteristics:

1 - rigid lightweight frame/skeleton
2 - inner foam/air cushioning
3 - outer nylon shell (or something)
4 - opening in the vertical orientation (side of PowerBook upwards)

The closest one I've found so far is the Tom Bihn Monolith - are there others out there? Or should I just make one myself?

Thanks!

I don't recall ever hearing or seeing a sleeve with a "frame" and "air cushioning" but I may be wrong. It almost sounds like you need something that could withstand a drop from atop a building. I use a timbuk2 xxl sleeve for my 17" pb. It has a half inch padding around all sides. It is made of nylon and has handles for carrying. It also fasens with a buckle and not a zipper which is good. And it opens where you pull the powerbook out by the side. I like it and it works well with my bag that I put into. I am curious how one with such extensive needs for a rigid powerbook sleeve can "build" one that will do everything you need it to.

Don't make one yourself, buy the Monolith. I have one and it is awesome. It's very rigid with a heavy duty outer nylon shell and a nice soft inside. The Monolith has a nice rigid cardboard frame that makes it very stiff. You could toss the pbook around in one of these.

The Monolith has a cardboard frame, not a plastic one?
edit: Oh, I see - 'corrogated plastic' according to the site: http://www.tombihn.com/lapdogdetail.html

I guess it is corrogated plastic. It's very rigid and strong.

I have the 12" one for my Powerbook. Bulletproof.

I've had a bike crash where I ended up on my back, rolling right over the laptop sleeve.

I swear I could hear it laughing.

Kind of off-topic, but, can anyone recommend a very thin and unobtrusive sleeve? Currently I carry my iBook around in my Timbuk2 computer commuter bag. It works very well for carrying and protecting the computer.

I just don't want my new 15" AlBook to suffer any scratches or anything. I know that Radtech sells something that seems like it would do the trick (PowerSleeve or whatever), but, I'm unsure if it can stretch to fit the 0.2" wider 15" AlBook, since that sleeve was made with the TiBook dimensions in mind.

So, any ideas? Or should I just wrap a small piece of soft cloth around it?

Thanks!!

I have the same prob...I already have a really nice Tumi laptop bag, I just need a cover for the laptop to prevent the scuffing that'll occur from typicaly walking motion.

I really like the one from Sony. They have VAIO softcover to keep the laptop from getting scratches. Unfortunately, the 15" they have now may not cover the AL book, I have to check. It was perfect for the iBook though.

I too have the Brenthaven sleeve since it came with the Professional 15 bag that I have. The sleeve is quite cushioned to the point that unless I feel like throwing it around I don't feel that much of anything could happen to the PB. The sides are semi-reidged and there is plenty of nice, thick cushioning all the way around.

I have used it severl times as just a simple slleve by itself and I was more than happy with it.
