Do you carry your books in your backpack along with a powerbook, or do you have two separate bags that you carry around.
The reason I am asking is because I am a college student who carries around 3 books that weight about 50 lbs. I don't think its a good idea to put a powerbook in with those bags even with a sleeve.
Do you normally just keep two bags then if that is the case?
After re-reading that post I am questioning if I am still a college student. I fixed the 15 million typos I just had.

I have an Eastpak bookbag w/ a padded pouch built into the backpack closest to my back in the top zippered compartment...my 12" PB slips perfectly into that padded compartment and all my books/notebooks/etc. go in the zippered compartments. I don't use a sleeve either when it's in there, and it's never gotten hurt. I lug it around daily like this and have never had a problem...however, I'd never do this w/o that padded built in pouch.

i have the same problem except that i'm a law student so on any given day, i carry enough books to break a camel's back. The thing is that I hate carrying stuff on my back and in my hands. I got one of those huge @$$ Timbuk2 messenger bags and just ordered the Tom Bihn sleeve with the hard plastic padding and the soft padding . Hopefully, that'll hold up. I'll let you know.

When i take my PowerBook to school, it goes in with my notebooks, in a neoprene sleeve.
That said, stop carrying 50lbs of books before you ruin your back! (I carried about 60lbs of books throughout 6th grade, and my back has never recovered ... and that was 10 years ago.)

Brings me back to the University days....hehe....I had a Blueberry iBook the very first version....and later upgraded to the legendary Powerbook Pismo...I used the powerbook for most of the class lectures. I had a seperate case for the powerbook.. a briefcase styled case when I had to bring books back and forth to the dorm. But mostly I had the powerbook and that was it.....oh that and a wacom tablet for drawing diagrams....hehe....
Seriously, to carry a powerbook with other heavy books, you are risking damage to your LCD screen....never ever put pressure on the lid or hinge. I had a friend who carried a Dell....not a powerbook but a notebook none the less...he had a pencil jammed into the rear hinge area....and when he went to open the display...he cracked the display apart... And then my other friend had a pen blown up on his notebook (Fujitsu) it was ugly....
So you never know what might happen to your powerbook if you mix it with other stuff...if worse comes to worse....get a good protective Padded sleeve for the powerbook and then slip it into the bag (if you really must) otherwise I highly recommend carrying your powerbook in a dedicated case... my homepage

I use the Brenthaven Titanium Backpack. Greatest backpack I have EVER had in my life. Great support, very comfortable, removeable slipcase for my 15" Powerbook (used it with my old TiBook, not the void is filled with a new Superdrive 1.25 Ghz Aluminum PB) I carry EVERYTHING with me in that thing. Digital camera, cell phone, PDA, iPod, books, software, extra battery, video cables, DV tapes, the works...I love it

I carried my iBook with all my books, pens, scale rules, drawing equipment etc in the same bag during college (I was an architecture student) without any problems, BUT I would not do it now though! I would suggest you get a slim fitting shoulder bag for your powerbook and a giant backpack for your books! It's often handy to have them in separate bags anyway.
