i have a tibook with combo drive and i'm considering buying the new Plextor 708UF (see http://www.plextor.be) external DVD burner for my tibook. but i'm doubting...

for $299 i can get the Panasonic/Matshita UJ-815B drive, the same as used in the AlBooks i guess.

My quesion is if anobody has attempted to order a UJ-815 online at a PC store such as dfwdepot.com and attempted to swap the drive hime/herself. would i expect to have firmware issues or will it work "out of the box"... is the connector the same as on my current combo drive?

any hints appreciated!
