I'm not new to the mac in anyway but I'm purchasing a used iBook 700mhz with 384mb or ram in the next week.

What should I know? I don't think it has an airport card, where should I look for one? Where can I get generic cheepo ram for this sucker? Is it one ram slot? What type RAM? Anyone got a link to all the specs on this model (it's 1 year old)

Any other advice? Does it work with dual screen mode? I have the adapter so I plan to run it on my ViewSonic 17' professional monitor, what resolutions can it do?

Pop my cherry ;-)

Also my g3 b&w (upgraded to g4) currently has the 128 16mb RAGE and drives my 17' monitor at 1280x1024 85hz (on pci bus). It's safe to assume that the 700mhz ibook with the 7500 Radion will be able to drive at the same correct?

Yes, the iBook only has 1 ram slot, and the video card should be able to drive that external monitor at your desired resolution using the firmware hack, I remember reading a thread about it, I'm sure doing a search will turn it up.

You can buy an Airport card at any online/retail store that sells Macs. Check www.dealmac.com to see if there are any bargains going right now. Remember, though, that iBooks don't support Airport Extreme, just regular Airport cards.

Go to www.ramseeker.com and select iBook from the menu at the top for the best RAM prices.

Go to www.everymac.com for detailed specs on any iBook model.

You can do video mirroring on your external monitor, but using true dual displays will require a firmware hack (your iBook may or may not support it... search around for more detailed info). Either way, I personally don't recommend firmware hacks because there's too much potential for trouble, IMO.
