Hi -- I am considering selling my wife's 667dvi 15" and getting a 12" for commuting and international travel. I'll give her my 1gh Ti SD.... for use at home and for video editing. I am currently in Switzerland where there aren't yet any 12" machines in any of the shops...so I can't do a hands on evaluation.
I was wondering has anyone seen a new 12" AL in person? In an Apple Store? In Paris Expo?
My question is is the screen the same or brighter than the old 12"?
Thanks for any "hands on" evaluations.
Garrett

Apple Switzerland has promised authorized dealers to supply them with 12" models by September 30. If you can wait for another week you should be able to spot one at a shop yourself.

saw all 3 news ones in the Apple store in Tampa, Florida/USA...
the 15" is the brightest... the 12" and 17" seemed about the same.
they were all fine
remember that i am talking about seeing them in a store with a tremendous amount of light/halogen mostly... so it was NOT the ideal viewing situation. i did, of course, make sure that the brightness was FULLY TURNED UP on all the machines before judging them.
hope this helps
the view on all 3 was fantastic

Thanks for both of your replies -- actually the 30th is too late as I would like to order education and get the 200 discount on the ipod and would need to purchase by the 27th.
Good to know that the new 12" screen looks good... the previous model was quite dull by comparison.
Now I am pondering purchasing without Applecare. Also want to figure out the best way to sell my old 667 DVI in Switzerland. Any takers?
Oh ya, and convince my wife it is a good idea to sell her 667. ;-)
Thanks again.
More reports on the new 12" screen and anything else are welcomed.

i'm not sure about purchasing any apple product (or any other computer product, for that matter) without APPLECARE....
think that one out
apple without applecare stinks because there is NO SUPPORT at all
at least we can get support here
but...
especially with a new product
get the warranty if you can afford it
IMHO

Garrett: I would definitely get AppleCare. But you can wait to buy AppleCare until just before your 1-year warranty runs out.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

erm, you saw the 1ghz 12" PB? I didn't think any of those are on display in any Apple stores yet. If it was the new revision, did you check how hot it ran?

it ran great
they are in the stores on display
just like on the site
the 12" on the left, 15" in the middle, 17" on the right
that 12" was cute, durable, fast... very disirable
just a little too small for my 40 year old eyes
