Any Virtual PC users, have access to both a old G4 powermac/powerbook with L3 cache, and one of the new Powerbooks with 512kB L2?

if so id be happy if you could tell me how they compare in performance.

Thx in advance

There's not much of a performance hit, if any. VPC is still very usable. I was using a 17" Rev A before, and now on a 15" 1.25GHz.

I remember reading somewhere that 10.2.8 has a positive impact, but I'm not installing it until Apple re-releases it.

I have a 800MhzTi, 867mhz 12" albook and a 17" 1.33ghz and the 17" feels sigificantly fatster than all of the above with VPC 6.1. It's actually bordering on usable with most apps now. Still a subjective measurement at this point and graphics intensive apps seem to exhibit less of a speedup. This is with max VRAM and 512MB dedicated to the VPC.

i also have a 1.33 17" coming from a Ti800 (which I miss less and less each day)

Regarding VPC:

My install is Windows 2000 Pro and 512mb RAM. I have another 512mb stick arriving tomorrow. ( www.oempcworld.com )

I reinstalled versions up to 6.01 and have the installers/updates for 6.02 and 6.1.

Somehow I am reluctant to go 6.1 ; final cave-in to goodbye Connectix, hello Microsoft.

What is your current total RAM? If only 512mb, are you allocating all 512mb in VPC?

What speed increases did you experience between VPC 6.0, 6.01, 6.02 and then to 6.1.

Any polishing of settings you care to share?
What about heat and pegged CPU monitor and fan coming on with VPC?

Did you notice the difference in snappiness with the Ti with more cache (level 3) versus the Al 1.33 17"? I felt my Ti to be more responsive in VPC.

BTW...as I posted earlier elsewhere, 10.2.8 eliminated a growling, noisy cooling fan after updating; I can't explain it, but am grateful none the less. VPC did run noticibly faster after the 10.2.8 install, but not as much quickness seemingly as the Ti800 running 10.2.6

Your experience and replies are appreciated.

Thanks.

You don't really have to. All it does is change the Connectix logos to M$ ones.

I hope not. That would be a very bad idea.
