I thought I could get by on my Ti without one, but even WildEepz (screen bumbers) don't help, so I have to use a protector too, otherwise I get horrible marks from my keys. I can't say how necessary a screen protector is on the new AlBooks (though I wish I could!)

From what I've heard, it is ONLY the first models of the TiBook that get screens scratched from contact with the keyboard. This issue was resolved by the end of the TiBook line and the keys don't even come close to the screen in the AlBooks.

I bought the Radtech for my first gen PB12 but never needed it. Apparently it's not a problem with the new gen of AL-PB's. The Radtech thing is a nice cloth to clean smudges now.

Looking forward.

I have a Nov. TiBook and the keys do leave marks on the screen. But I don't close and open my lid a lot (don't ask).

TiBooks may have this problem, but from what I hear AlBook shouldn't unless you REALLY squash the computer brutally. older PBooks were meant to close with no gap to make them thinner, but now they're designed with a gap.
(Also, with my Lombard PBG3, it wasn't scratches really, just dirt--and mostly could be washed off the screen carefully.)

I used a piece of paper for my TiBook. Wasn't too diligent in it's use and ended up with permanent scratches in the screen. Others will tell you they could be polished out. Not in this case - the marks went into the lcd and could be felt with a fingernail. I did not make that mistake with my second TiBook. Used a simple piece of paper and did not have a single mark on the screen. With my BigAl book, I continued the habit, but found there was indeed a gap between the keyboard and screen as the sheet of paper would just slide out. I switched over to a piece of microfiber cloth from Kensington (2 for $5). The thickness is perfect and the price is fantastic for a microfiber cloth.

Do you want to protect your screen?
I believe even the AL PB's can benefit from a screen protector. Our firm uses ShaggyMac exclusively. They are all about screen preservation.

I bought the Marware keyboard pad. It's nice, simple, fits right on top of the keyboard and it's only $8-$10.
