I'm wondering if my 15 inch will be safe if I order it through the net. Does it come with extra padding? maybe in an additional box? should I be worried?

Lots of people order that way--I've gotten every computer I've ever bought that way. Don't worry. If it WERE damaged in shipping, you'd tell the source and the carrier and get a new one. But they're well packaged.

And even if you buy in a store, it was shipped there anyway.

Mine was shipped to me. It's safe, very safe, don't worry about it.

Whether you buy it in the store or through the internet, it is shipped from the factory anyway.

If there is any damage the shipper or the company that sold it to you would be responsible. Order and stop worrying!

'cept for dem PC zealots, ya know.. they like to kick in boxes and stuff..

Actually to be perfectly honest I've had stuff damaged before.. it just happens.. apple or not. Once had a mirror we bought online and we had to send it back and fourth several times because the mirror kept getting chipped and cracked in shipping....ooops!

Err I once got a cinema display in a box that was kicked in.. no damage to the monitor tho.. apple's packaging is typically quite durable and doesn't use the product itself as structure.

Received my new powerbook two days ago and it came in brown, inconspicuous packaging. and the computer was well padded on the inside. They only incovenience was that Airborne Express does not update their tracking system enough so I was unable to follow my computer all the way from Taiwan.

Yeah, like they mentioned here, the stores get the packages the same way you do when you order it, typically a brown box surrounding the regular package. It's nothing to worry about. What you should realize is that there are worse things to happen to the packaging such as the unloading of packages at retail stores. Trust me, if you've worked in retail and unloaded trucks, you would not want to buy half the stuff the way they unload the packages off the trucks, lol.

They aren't going to leave it their if your not home so its very safe. Its also convenient at least it was for me. You can also check order status and see where your powerbook is all the time its great. Although the consequence is a ridiculious tax. Im in NY had to pay 180 dollars tax on the machine totally ridiculious. My 200 dollar rebate on the ipod is taking care of the tax so it doesnt feel like a rebate after i saw that, but its still nice if you know what i mean. On second though driving all the way to buffalo for it costs gas, and you cant get it custom built at least to my knowledge. Never been to retail store but want to really bad. I go down to pitsburgh once a year i wish they could add one their.

Yeah, it makes no difference, since it's shipped the same way to the stores as it is to your home.

It is nice, though, that Apple is thoughtful enough to put the brown cardboard outer box over it, so that the pretty printed "suitcase" box doesn't get marred.
