Earlier thread on hard drive replacement: here

My laptop basically won't come on, and won't light up, even when i press the battery button. How can i tell if the internal and removable batteries are charging?

What should i check to try and figure out why it's acting dead? Any suggestions or ideas appreciated. The RAM and CPU module appear to be seated firmly into their sockets, and the hard drive cable is connected correctly.

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

Have you tried reseting the computer? There's a button in the back among the expansion bay ports that you can press with a paper clip to reset the computer. If that doesn't work, make sure that you have a good AC Adapter and a good battery. If there are no lights showing up on the battery, there's a good chance your battery is dead and/or not charging. Another thing to try is disconnecting the keyboard and seeing if the computer will power up without the keyboard attached. Also, make sure that the sound card that the Power Adapter plugs into is not loose becuase otherwise the computer won't be getting any power.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it should give you some things to try.

This happened to me a few days ago...

I took out the battery and put it back in and everything was dandy.

That may not tbe the answer, but if you haven't tried it...

Pulling out and replacing the battery definitely wasn't the answer. I'm going to take it apart again and try the sound board, if i can figure out where it is and how to get to it.

Why would it power up with the keyboard disconnected?
