I've a bit of a dilemma - I (just about) have the funds for a new powerbook. I'm going to need the 15 inch anyway, and 512 MB of RAM. Do I get a stripped down 1.2Ghz (without the superdrive) or a souped up 1 Ghz (with 512MB RAM)?
Not the hugest problem I know - but I was wondering whether the speed factor is worth the $300 (approx) extra. This would mean tightening my belt for a little while but it is achievable.
I'm an architect so use a lot of graphics programs.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you use lots of graphics software, then the extra speed is a good thing. Also, all the RAM you can afford is worth it using this OS. Although, it is possible you would not even notice the speed difference between the 2 machines. I know, I am not much help.

go for the 1.25MHz, with the combo drive, it's much beter value for money. Plus you get the cool backlit keyboard

If you price out the 1GHz with the same amount of memory, the backlit keyboard, Airport Extreme and such, the 1.25 GHz machine is less that $100 difference....that's why I bought the 1.25...now, when will it arrive?

it would of been better if both 15"'s were 1.25 Ghz. Its sad that the 15" has been at 1Ghz for nearly a whole year now. Would of been better to have moved it on and let the 12" be the 1Ghz machine soley.

Just went for the 1.25 GHz! Thanks for the suggestions - was really pulling my hair out trying to decide. Now I just have to wait 4 weeks for delivery....

Yeah, that's the thing that sucks when you customize your machine.
I was in the same dilemma as you about 2 weeks back. I just use this mostly for business (MS Word/Excel) and the web. So realistically I don't need the faster speed, but then again, resale value would be a little bit higher.
So I went with the 1.25GHz. Both of machines are great though.

I avoided the bto option just for that reason when I ordered mine on the 23rd. It had at the time available immediatly, of course since then I got emails stating that it will ship on or before 10/03. Being the kind of instant gratification person, I thought waiting another week was rough, never mind 4 weeks,
Good luck and enjoy.
