I'm lovin my laptop with a passion, but it looks like there's a bit of a warp with my lid, so closing it is a b*tch. I'm guessing that it's curved up about .5 - 1 mm on each side. Do you new PB owners have this too?

Lid closes fine on mine. No warp that I can see.

Sure, my new Al book has a 1/2 mm curve. You have to look really closely to notice. Great closing, opening, no keys hit the screen.

My friend and I both ordered the AL Powerbook 1.25 GHz the same day it was introduced and got is shipped overnight from CDW (By the way, apple usually prepositions some stock with the major internet resellers, so I knew if I was the first to call I got mine about 36 hours after the machine was officaially anounced in Paris...
Anyway my machine is fine, but my friend has noticed the bend that you guys mention. I alway pick up my machine from both edges, because I notice that there is some play in the lid. I suppose if I really squeezed the machine in the middle when pulling it out of its marware case it could cause a bend. This worries me a little but I think that you could probably bend this back, it is aluminum after all, and not very thick at that.
I love my new Machine.

My top isn't warped but you do have to slam it (gently) to get the latch to catch.
While the latch may wear in, I HATE the "mouse button!" The spring is WAY TOO strong ... subjectively, at least three times the effort of a key ... it's almost difficult to pull down a menu!
My iBook is FAR easier ... and it just had the button replaced, a month or so ago, so it's not just a "break-in" issue. The fact that the button is half the size of the iBook's doesn't help.
'Lil niggly bits that will have to be worked out.

All the 15" AlBooks I've seen in stores are warped--slightly. About .5 mm higher on both sides than the middle.
It's been symmetrical, and doesn't interfere with lid closing. But I think it's in the manufacturing, because pressure in the center from picking it up would make the center bumpers hit, not cause the edges to rise AWAY from the case. (Unless you pressed REALLY hard, and even then it's not the kind of warp I'd expect from that.)
I also think it's a defect--since come PB owners report a non-warped lid, and Apple's big close-up photos show no warp. Not a big one though--the LCD itself looked fine, and the warp was something you'd notice only when closed--and a casual glance wouldn't even catch it.
Still, yhis warping is actually a factor in my purchasing decision. It won't stop the computer from working, but having paid $2500 for something I want it to be flat if other people have flat ones Unfortunately, I really like the LCD and the specs, and no other model fits the bill. So I'll have to decide whether to risk it or not. (Given the "white spots"--1 in 250 affected?--I'm waiting a bit anyway.)
(If I do buy and get a warped one, will Apple replace/repair a warped case, on warranty, assuming I don't mind the delay? Or will they say it's a little cosmetic thing and make me argue for it?)

Hmmmm ... since we last spoke, Apple replaced my LCD and the top assembly (the bit with the trackpad, speaker grilles, etc.
Now everything is straight and true, lid closes with a slight squeeze ... no slamming, gentle or otherwise ... satisfying snick, never comes open.
I'm happy as a lark with my (albeit remanufactured) 15" AL.

Mine is higher on the sides than in the middle. I could eat my dinner off of it without it sliding off.
By the way, its the second screen so far, I need to have it replaced again for dead pixels.

Yeah, I'm fine now, my entire lid assembly including LCD was replaced. It's cool, I love it.

Some people use their $2500 computer for refrigerator shelves, others use if for a TV tray. Must be a pity to those who actually have to use theirs to pay rent and put food in their bellies.
As far as my warp goes, it is about equally warped on each side. A micrometer would be necessary to measure any difference in each side.
