Did Apple just change the top PowerBook configs? I swear that 23 days ago when I priced out a config, they were 512MB in slot 1... Now they show up as 256x2!
And you must now pay $100 to get that 512 in slot 1... and the other slot 1 options all went up another $100 as well!
Am I crazy? Did my (probably) future PowerBook just go up $100?
No way would I get 256x2 and throw one away! Nor would I settle for the stock 512.
(EDIT: see below--I'm just crazy. The 17" is NOT $100 more than I thought. Thanks, all.)

If you mean the new models then no they have always been shipping with 2x256 and $90 to get a 512 in slot one. I bought 2 512 sticks from 18004memory.com and am going to sell my 2 256 sticks, kind of sucks but hey I got my 15" on the 16th at the store so I'm not complaining.

I concur (I tried to reply to the earlier thread on this but my Mozilla crashed. I blame 10.2.8). At least since the AlBooks have been introduced (seems like weeks ago), they have come stock with 2x256M. Upgrading to 1x512 is $100/90 EDU.

There must have been some weird glitch then--I checked what I copied from the Apple online store a few days ago, and it DID show 512 in one slot (17"), for no extra cost! And it DID show 1 GB in slot 1 for $400! And although I didn't copy it, I remember the 15" being the same.
Oh well, it's not the case... I'll have to save another $100...
If a few more people concur that I'm insane, I'll update the post title

It was 512 in one slot for the 17", but it was always 256x2 for the 15" with $100 to go to one 512. That's the way the ones in the stores are configured. Sucks, but I guess they use that to make the 17" "better" for the power user.

Dude, you're insane!
No...the AL PB 17 rev b. always came with 1 slot of 512 MB since they were announced...you must have just presumed, or something, that the AL PB 15 rev. a was the same.
But, the 15 always just came with 2 x 256...sucks doesn't it.
I am currently looking at it this way:
I know for sure that I would upgrade to (at least) 1 slot 512 MB at a cost of $100, if I got the 15". So, I can justify my purchase of the 17" PB, as it is now relatively just $300 (not $400) more expensive because it already includes this option.
Gotta love that 17".

I see--I was actually considering the BOTTOM 15" which thus only used 1 slot (256).
But my insanity may not be solved yet...
I swear the 17" showed 2x256 today--but it doesn't now!
Ah well, glad to be wrong--time to change the title...
EDIT: I'm not permitted to change the post title, or delete it. Moderators, feel free!
Or leave it as a memorial to my insanity...
