The sound output jacks on my Pismo came loose. So, I decided to solder them back on. After I resassembled everything, I found it would not switch on! No sound, no whine of components starting, no harddrive spinning, *nothing*. I did notice the fan next to the heat sink come on at one point, however and the heat sink did seem a little warm. So, it sounds like it was getting some juice... So, thinking I screwed up with my soldering, I ordered a new sound card and popped it in. It still will not start! I'm thinking that it might be the switch itself or the motherboard. Before I go throwing good money after bad, I'd like to ask if anyone has any experience with this and could suggest something more definitive. I don't think anything else could be damaged that would cause it not to start. It would have to be the motherboard at this point or the power switch...

Go over every connector you unplugged and make sure they are all the way in, also just retrace everything you did chances are something was plugged in upside down or not in far enough.

Everything is seated properly, I believe. While it won't start up, the keyboard lights will come on when you hit the num lock or caps lock key. It shouldn't do that if it's off, right? Weird. That means the power switch at least works as it will not do that when you pull the battery and then hit the key. Hm...

hi sinebubble,

if you had the processor disconnected, that would be my guess as to which connector is not seated properly.

the processor daughtercard is hard to reseat in its connector.

to reseat the processor, you must remove the RAM in the top slot and then press down very firmly right over the connector.

hope that helps

best wishes,

Rich, I jammed it down pretty hard; I'm pretty certain it's seated. I'm thinking something must be wrong with the motherboard at this point.
