I was wondering if there is such a thing that would keep the backlit keyboard on all the time. call me crazy but i love that look. anyway thanks for any info that you give ahead of time.

There isn't any hack to enable it all the time. There is however a hack to set it to full brightness whenever it's dark enough to come on. There are two ways, but the easiest one is go into the Terminal application and type this:

defaults write com.apple.bezelservices kHWMin 1

Works great for me.

um, maybe a small piece of aluminum colored tape over the light sensor?

The 17" sensors (there are 2) are in the speaker grilles, centered horizontally in the grille, up at the top by the hinge. The 15" is likely about the same. Use your fingers to cover spots on BOTH sides and you should find them.
