I used my powerbook all day yesterday with no problems. Well today I started to hear some clicking noise come out of the harddrive, I think?
Now what should I do? Is this normal for the powerbook?

Back up important data AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, the clicking is most likely indication for an uprising harddisk failure...

Some HD sounds are normal, but I'd be worried. Take no chances! Get all your data backed up. Easiest way: burn a CD(s) of your username folder. That will get your docs, your mail, even your preferences and bookmarks. (Everything but your installed apps.)

You'll probably need to have an Apple service center swap in a new HD. Notice when the problem happens, so you can show them if they need proof.

Hopefully all is well, but HDs do fail, and Apple doesn't make those.

Which HD do you have? 4200rpm or 5400rpm?
Thanks!

Actually, I got my iBook serviced last week (picked up late Tues, back from Texas Thurs a.m. -- yep) . . . Apple offered me a backup service for $49 . . .

Luckily, I was able to backup to another machine in "Target Disk" mode -- aka connect 2 machines via Firewire cable.

It rocked -- maybe not as cheap as a CD backup -- an iPod would've done just as well, but actually, this time it was because video wasn't getting to my LCD.

Read about it in your Help Menu. "Target Disk" mode.
