on the blue screen? you mean blue background, but no hard drive icon, nothing?

you need to provide detailed information for us to focus our brain power on your problem.

ibook specs: processor, ram, type (clamshell, white)

any weirdness prior?

any recent updates or installations?

any new hardware (including RAM)?

2 things you can do right away:

1. Wait..

Sometimes if a program has been installed or modified, it will take its sweet time at startup configuring itself or what not. Believe me, alot of peopel have probably panicked after a few seconds when in maybe a few minutes it will finish booting. Restarting it will just leave it unresolved.

2. Verify Disk Permissions

Pop in your Mac OS X cd or system restore cd (no, don't wipe your system) and go to the apple menu when it loads and run disk utiliies and you might be on your way

And if you've got the stomach for it, boot into OS9 or Target Disk your ibook and use another computer to search through crash logs and lines and lines of gibberish to maybe pinpoint the corrupt file. I've averted a need to reinstall with this several times.

Hope that helps.
