I bought a new 15" Albook and then added RAM (2x512 sticks) I got from 18004memory.com, I had to exchange my original powerbook because of white spots so I installed those two sticks in the new one. I haven't really used the machine much with just the original RAM but one thing I noticed after I put the RAM in the old one was a lot of times the machine would not wake up from sleep and I would have to restart it. It also would seem to shutdown for no reason but it was still on the screen would get black, no pulsing light to indicate that it was sleeping, the fan would still run but I could not get any reaction to anything other than holding the power key and then restarting. and then it would also have a window come up that said in many languages something like you will have to restart your machine hold down the powerr key or press the reset button. Since switching to the new pbook it happens a lot. I find it hard to believe that this is something with the machine as its done it on both powerbooks that I have had and I havent seen this problem anywhere else, so that leads me to believe that it is a problem with the RAM. What do you guys think? I will call 18004memory.com on Monday and see what they say, the RAM has a lifetime warrenty on it so there shouldn't be a problem getting new ones. Also I wanted to add that the RAM is the Hyperspeed. Thanks for the help

I had freezes and panics occur after installing a 512MB module alongside my stock 256MB. Certain apps wouldn't start at all (DVD Player, iMovie) and several installations (Developer Tools was one) caused panics.

Replacing the 512MB module fixed all those issues; looks like the new PowerBooks are sensitive to RAM type/quality.

I'm seeing something similar. Twice I've it basically crash when waking from sleep. Black screen, no response except power button, won't sleep if lid closed. I've run the hardware test from DVD twice, both the quick and extensive test, with no problems found.

I'm using a 512MB I had in a 17" for 5 months with no problem and a 1GB SODIMM from transintl.com. I'd almost suspect RAM, but the problem is when waking from sleep. I have had on kernal panic in the past week, I've booted in single user mode and run fsck so there are no disk problems. I'm beginning to suspect there a hardware specific bug in the OS that's causing this.
