My new 15" PB of 24 hours has finally died. I was using itunes, when the phone rang, I paused itunes. When I went to click to continue to play the track, the PB freezed with a continuous "click clack" sound from the hard disk.

Performed a reset and the dreaded question mark folder start screen popped up, with the "click clack" sound. Insert the Software restore DVD and tried run disk tools on the hard drive, but it could not be found....the hard disk volume.

Call applecentre, and the guy over the phone agreed that very likely the hard disk had failed. They offer a replacement if I could get mine back to the shop.

Any suggestions to revive the hard disk? Or do I need a replacement?

Thanks

Terrible luck. But unfortunately it happens from time to time...

The first 24 hours is always the critical time for new machines, if anything is seriously wrong direct from the factory, it will go in the first hours of usage.

And it does sound like a faulty hard drive to me...

I would get a replacement machine ASAP under Apple's DOA policy. The machine is less than 24 hours old, and you should NOT take 2nd best or be worried about it in future by having it repaired or something.

Yep it is a hassle, but hold out until you get one that is 100% OK... you paid for it.

Good luck,

Marc
