I received an email from Apple last night saying that my BTO 17" shipped (they upgraded me to overnight delivery too). Around 10am this morning the tracking info showed up on Airborne's website, but the status of it didn't say anything. I called Airborne and they said it should arrive TOMORROW and that it's coming from IL (the lady wasn't very sure about that though).

So, on your order, did it say it was coming from Taiwan? The from address is an Apple distribution center in IL. Airborne only told me that it was "in transit". Where is my powerbook??

With Airborne, the shippers address will be the IL distribution center, but it will ship from Taiwan to IL, then from there to your destination. You will not get much info from the tracking page via Airborne, and will most likely get conflicting reports calling Apple or Airborne.

Absolutely correct! My AE Base Station said it was shipping from Illinois, and came from Taiwan, took about 5 days or so. However, the machine came from Taiwan directly to me, it did not have a happy layover in illinois. My bluetooth mouse however, came directly from california. Strange.

The most satisfying explanation of this I've heard so far is that the IL address is where the stuff will clear customs.

I had to call and clear this up when the Airborne site said my iPod was coming from IL but its location was Shanghai.

The estimated delivery date was bogus the entire time. It never changed from Sep 12th, the day after I got my shipment notice from Apple. Didn't get the sucka until Sep 19th.

Ok, it seems as though Airborne is a little backwards, this is the order status as of this morning:

9/30/03 -- 10:15 am -- In Transit. -- Taipei,_Taiwan
10/1/03 -- 2:36 pm -- Picked Up by Airborne. -- Shipper's Door

Um, so it appeared at the shipper's door after a day coming from Taiwan, what??

Maybe this means it's in IL, then it would overnight to me tomorrow
