Long story short I have been having a lot of problems with my new 15". I talked to Apple and they told me they wanted me to run the Apple Hardware test in loop mode. The tech said that it should take about 4 hours and then he told me some other stuff to do. Well I did that and it is hour 8.5 and it has not stopped looping. Am I just suposed to hit stop test or what? Thanks for the help

Your long story - short is insufficient for us to troubleshoot or provide an explanation. What are your specific problems? lol

I was really just looking for the answer to how long should I let the hardware test go but here is some posts I made earlier so its a bit broken up;
I bought a new 15" Albook and then added RAM (2x512 sticks) I got from 18004memory.com, I had to exchange my original powerbook because of white spots so I installed those two sticks in the new one. I haven't really used the machine much with just the original RAM but one thing I noticed after I put the RAM in the old one was a lot of times the machine would not wake up from sleep and I would have to restart it. It also would seem to shutdown for no reason but it was still on the screen would get black, no pulsing light to indicate that it was sleeping, the fan would still run but I could not get any reaction to anything other than holding the power key and then restarting. and then it would also have a window come up that said in many languages something like you will have to restart your machine hold down the powerr key or press the reset button. Since switching to the new pbook it happens a lot.

I also forgot to mention before that when it does wake up from sleep the display will flash to all bule then back to normal it flashes about 3-4 times

At first I thought that it was a RAM problem but I was able to get the same resuts after I put the Apple RAM back in, as of right now I am into hour 8 and the hardware test is still going. It is on loop 23.

It does sound like defective RAM--even the original Apple RAM could be defective. As for how long to let it loop, call Apple back and get their follow-up advice. Use only one stick and see if that solves your problem. Also, establish another admin user and log in as that user--does the problem persist?

Whenever you get a new computer, you're better off reformatting and reinstalling the system from scratch. It eliminates a whole bunch of later guesswork. If you don't want to erase and reinstall at this point, at least do an archive and install. Be sure to repair permissions and run fsck -y.
