I figured since alot of us have just got our new powerbooks, we could use some awesome looking widescreen images. So if you have a background that looks stunning on your powerbook, post it here. I'm not sure this will work since some of us may have background images we can't host anywhere, but if you also have sites with impressive backgrounds, those would be great too. Here's my submission.

This image is not widescreen, but it stretches to fit very nicely.

This "backwards apple" design has been done before, but I've only found it with brushed metal, which was much darker than my AlBook and ruined the illusion of being a part of the case, so I made my own to more closely resemble the finish. (Unfortunately the lighting in my apartment has a slight yellowish tint, so I had to guess the true color. I hope I came close. )

BIG!

Great post. How do I get it on my computer though?

1. Click on the link, the picture comes up.
2. Click it and drag it onto your hard drive.
3. Go to your home directory -> Pictures -> now create a folder called "Desktop Pictures" (or whatever you want)
4. Move the new wallpaper picture to this "Desktop Pictures" folder
5. Go to System Preferences -> Screen Effects
6. Find Pictures Folder -> Click "configure"
7. Click on "Set Slide Folder"
8. Find the "Desktop Pictures" folder you created. Double click on that.
9. Hit "Ok" back on the Screen Effects
10. That's it!

Others could have explained it better, but there you go.

i have a few other jaguar pics, they are on my pc... (stil in the process of switching)

I would not hesitate to give the original source of these pics, but I edited them for clarity and color balance... so you wouldnt want the originals, they are not as impressive....

Tomorrow i'll post them

Someone before mentioned Backlight (runs a screensaver as your desktop background--see versiontracker.com) in conjunction with a fish screen saver.

I'd like to recommend the Fluid screensaver for this. There are LOTS of settings, and some are pretty CPU-intensive (reduce the model from 128 to 64 to enhance speed), but the effects are VERY cool and widely varied, with lots of presets. I find turning off all but one or two factors makes a decent, smoothly-animated backdrop on my 700 Mhz eMac.

http://www.concepthouse.com/products/fluid/

But what is coolest, I think, is using Backlight and Fluid and doing the following:

* Pick a nice abstract desktop picture--the standard Apple and Abstract ones are good.

* In Fluid, turn off everything in Render Style

* Under Background, choose "Current Desktop Background"

* Choose Warp or Distort: Warp is less CPU-intensive, but Distort has cleaner borders around the screen

* You may need to increase the Intensity slider--I raised it to just under half, but then again my machine is slower than a PowerBook.

The effect: your desktop picture will ebb and flow like liquid! It's pretty cool--try it with different pictures and different Intensities.

(You will need to stop and re-start the screensaver to see any changes you make to Fluid settings--or to make it notice if you change your desktop picture.)
