Absolutely nothing! Read my review HERE for a full rundown of how it performs and such...that should give you a good idea about how it does in real-world tests.

Nothing wrong with the 12" at all.
There are differences, though, compared to the 15" and 17", obviously beginning with screen size.
Other notable differences include faster CPUs available in the larger PowerBooks, higher maximum RAM limit, the Radeon 9600 64MB graphic chip, available backlit keyboard, and other features not available on the 12". Check out the specification sheets on Apple's store site for detailed information.
If you meant to ask "Why would I want a 12" PowerBook instead of [something else]?", I'll say: What the best PowerBook for you is, is completely dependent on what you need it to do for you.

Great replies! These forums always seem too critical and pessimistic. I did not ask: "Why would I want a 12" PowerBook instead of [something else]?" Because:
1) I need a new Mac (my iMac 400 DVSE is still running, but is getting a little slow (even with 640 RAM))
2) New G5 is too expensive and more expansion that I will ever need
3) the new iMac are ugly
4) the new eMac does not seem to have all the features I want (and does not fit in my backpack)
5) I think it is time to free myself of wires (AE)
6) I do not need all the features in the 15" or 17" - I really just want a Superdrive for iDVD
So what else is there?!? A 12” Powerbook!

Wait a minute please clarify what you want to do a little better than that. So are you going to be making home videos with iMovie and then using iDVD you really should be more specific. What your saying really doesnt make sense either. Also you say that you need something that fits in your backpack so why did you even say anythign abotu desktops. This is why I posted something about how we need a sticky to help people decide. No one listened though, and I thnk its a good idea. All you would have is the basic questions in this sticky and if that didnt work for a person they could always post a thread to ask more specific questions. Whatever...
So it sounds like your a student whats your major, tell us more.
Oh and that last post was sarcastic how in the hell do you expect us to understand what you meant by "What is wrong with the 12" Powerbook (with Superdrive)? Price? Features? Size? ". what kind of stupid post is that. Its one sentence so dont expect people to just know what your talking about. As far as im concerned you came accross very rude in your second post to people that are trying to help you.
Whats wrong with the 12 is totally personal opinion because its a full featured notebook. So some people may not like the screen size and they may say thats whats wrong with the 12. its all opinion. This is exactly why I think we need a sticky.

I guess I had already decided what I wanted, and like I said before these forums are sometimes very critical and pessimistic about Apple products. I have had three Apple computers (][e, SE/30, and an iMac), and I have never hade a major issue or problem. I just wanted to make sure that what I wanted still has the quality and features of my past purchases.
Also: I mostly use iLife apps and email on my computer (along with the Internet). Not a lot of games. I am looking forward to making some homemade iMovies into iDVDs. I am not a student (but I still take a backpack to work as a architect/developer for a construction company).
I am sorry if my post sounds rude, and I do not think the original post was stupid. I am very happy with the responses that I have received so far, so I think that my post was entirely successful.
Thanks for the dialogue.

In a way I agree with this too.
They are cool, but to me are 'style over substance' somehow.
They also seem to lack the innocent cheeky 'charm' of the original. They have grown up and evolved, but to me they are in some ways really inferior to the original...
Oh well, I always knew I was a bit strange!
Peace,
Marc
